MAIN ITINERARY

ACCOMMODATIONS :: HACIENDA CUSIN (SAN PABLO DEL LAGO OTAVALO), CASA GANGOTENA (QUITO)

Main itinerary includes 6 breakfasts, 5 lunches, 5 dinners, 6 nights accommodations, all trip-related transportation, admissions, guides and gratuities. Not included airfare, airport transfers [see notes]and alcoholic beverages unless as specified in the itinerary

SUNDAY, JANUARY 12

Our trip begins at the Quito International Airport where participants will be met and then escorted on the approximately 70 minute scenic drive to Hacienda Cusin arriving in time for a light supper before it’s off to bed and the comforts of log-fires hot-water bottles and a sound sleep

MONDAY, JANUARY 13

After breakfast the group will gather for an introductory meeting and a tour of the Hacienda’s historic grounds

Lunch :: Las Palmeras Inn

We enjoy a delicious midday meal at the beautiful Las Palmeras Inn

Condor Park

With over 140 raptors, Parque Cóndor is dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of the mighty condor as well as other indigenous birds of prey Our tour will include demonstrations of hawk feeding and traditional falconry

Dinner :: Hacienda Cusin

We return to the comforts and charm of dinner at the Hacienda

TUESDAY, JANUARY 14

This morning we visit nearby the village markets to meet with and learn about the work of regional craftspeople. Special areas of focus include wood-carving, leather, weaving and music

Lunch :: La Mirage

We stop for a memorable lunch at the elegant—and spectacularly situated—La Mirage

Otavalo Market

After lunch we head to the great market town of Otavalo where centuries of tradition are evident in the quality and originality of the crafts, particularly in the textiles produced by the indigenous Otavaleño people, weavers since pre-Incan times

Dinner :: Hacienda Cusin

We return to the Hacienda for dinner while serenading by balladeer Ramiro

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 15

This is a morning to choose your own adventure whether it be horseback riding, mountain-biking, valley walking or just a bit of down time

Lunch :: Hacienda Cusin

We enjoy lunch on the lawn along with a performance by noted folklorica dancers

Rose Plantation

The climate and proximity to the equator make the Andes of Ecuador the perfect place for growing tall, straight roses as we see today as we tour this exquisite plantation

Dinner :: Hacienda Cusin

We celebrate our time at Hacienda Cusin with tonight’s festive farewell dinner

THURSDAY, JANUARY 16

After breakfast we depart for Quito

Lunch :: Plaza San Francisco

We take a lunch break in the beautiful Plaza San Francisco in the heart of colonial Quito

San Francisco Cathedral

Built over the course of 150 years, beginning in 1534, the cathedral has the distinction of being the largest cathedral complex in the Latin America. In addition to its rich architectural legacy, its holdings include the city's beloved Virgin of Quito.

Alabado Pre-Columbian Museum

Housed in a 17th century colonial residence, the renowned Alabado has vast collection displayed thematically around central tenets of pre-Columbian life

We are the honored guests for cocktails and conversation in this charming private home

FRIDAY, JANUARY 17

Today we continue to our exploration of Quito with a walking tour that includes both City Cathedral and the stunning La Compania Cathedral,   the Quito City Museum and San Agustin Monastery

Lunch :: Plaza San Francisco

Along the way we stop for another delightful lunch on Quito’s most iconic plaza

In the afternoon our tour continues

Dinner :: Zazu

Tonight our meal at the fabulous Zazu provides a festive and elegant finale to the main portion of our trip

Main portion of trip ends with breakfast
