EVENSONG

With its radiant sense of the sacred there is no more fitting way to begin our pilgrimage than with the 3:00 p.m. Evensong service at Westminster Abbey.

HIGH TEA AND REFLECTION ON OUR PILGRIMAGE

It is a happy Studio Traveler tradition to have high tea on our first afternoon, allowing us time to relax while enjoying one of the world’s most gracious traditions.  Rev. Tammy will guide our conversation as we explore what the purpose of pilgrimage is and how transformative travel can help us better understand who we are and what we are called to be and do at this juncture in our lives.

MONDAY OCTOBER 21

MORNING PRAYER AND REFLECTION

We start the day by gathering together for worship and reflection.

SALISBURY CATHEDRAL
After morning prayer and reflection, we depart for a two-day stay in Salisbury, anchored by the magnificent Salisbury Cathedral. We arrive in time for the Tower Tour. The Tower Tour is an extraordinary opportunity to deepen one’s understanding of the cathedral as a structural triumph of engineering and of faith.  It is not for the faint of heart as it involves traversing significant heights and navigating a number of tight staircases. An equally excellent tour of the interior of the cathedral will be offered to those who wish to have an alternative.

EVENSONG

Evensong at Salisbury begins at 5:30 p.m.

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 22

MORNING PRAYER AND HOLY COMMUNION

Today our optional worship is in Salisbury Cathedral. Morning Prayer begins at 7:30 a.m. followed by Holy Communion at 7:50 a.m.

Salisbury Cathedral continues to have its own dedicated quarry as well as an onsite masonry workshop.  Our tour of the workshop is a fascinating opportunity to become better acquainted with the restoration and maintenance of this enduring treasure.

 WELLS CATHEDRAL

After morning worship, we drive the short distance to the lovely town of Wells, site of Wells Cathedral, known as one of the most beautiful of cathedrals in England. Uniquely, much of the cathedral original stained glass is intact, having been spared the destructive wrath of the English Civil War.  We have the opportunity to tour the cathedral’s own stained glass workshop to learn more about the storytelling power of this ancient art form as well as mechanics of caring for these priceless cultural treasures.

We also may have a surprise or two in store in this very special place!

EVENSONG

Evensong at Wells begins at 5:15 p.m.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 24

This afternoon is self-directed and choices abound: Bodleian Library; Ashmolean Museum; The Oxford Museum of Natural History, Pitts Rivers Museum, Modern Art Oxford or just a bit out from town Blenheim Palace

We begin our visit with members of the Cathedral’s Reconciliation Ministry, one of the oldest religious-based centers of its kind in the world as well as being central to the Cathedral’s understanding of its modern mission.

We next take a comprehensive tour of the Cathedral complex which includes its dazzling modern sanctuary, the powerful ruins left as a testament to the senseless destruction of World War II and the small but resonent Blitz Museum.
