NEW YORK

+ FRIEZE

In partnership with Weatherspoon Art Museum

May 4 to 7, 2018

Tour will be guided by Weatherspoon director Nancy Doll and curator of collections Emily Stamey

On Friday our trip begins 1:30 p.m. when we will gather in the lobby of the Marriot Courtyard Upper East Side before heading out for our first stop--the Guggenheim for a guided tour of Take My Breath Away: Danh Vo.  Nancy and Emily will then be our guide as we visit several upper east side galleries, including Gagosian, Hauser & Wirth, Michael Werner, Mnuchin and Salon 94.  We end our day with dinner at The Writing Room, formerly Elaine's, still swank and delicious after all these years.

Saturday we begin our day at the Whitney with a guided tour of Zoe Leonard: Survey followed by a break for lunch on your own either in one of the Whitney's two restaurants or in one of the many other area restaurants.  In the afternoon, Nancy and Emily will once again guide us on visits to several area galleries, including David Zwirner, Hauser & Wirth, Jack Shainman, and Matthew Marks before we cross over to the lower east side for a guided tour of the New Museum's 2018 Triennial: Songs for SabotageTonight is an open dinner night.

Sunday is our day at Frieze.  In the morning we will take the ferry to Randall Island where Nancy and Emily will guide us through the highlights of the fair before our midday break for lunch (Frieze has a wide a variety of options) and then an afternoon of exploration.  (Please note: Randall ferries run throughout the day allowing participants to leave at a time of their own choosing.) Our Sunday evening dinner will be at the charming Cafe d'Alsace, just steps from our hotel.

On Monday we squeeze in a bit fun more to make the most of time in the city with a morning tour of the William Eggleston: Los Alamos exhibition at the Met and Adrian Piper: A Synthesis of Intuitions, 1965-2016 at MOMA.

Tour ends at or before 1:30 pm.

We are proud to have designed this trip with a focus on practicality and value.  This is reflected our choice of hotel, The Marriot Courtyard Upper East Side, which is very well located in relation to many of our activities.  Also, with an eye towards efficiency, transportation unless otherwise noted will be by subway or on foot. Participants will, of course, have the option of arranging to travel by taxi, Uber or Lyft should they prefer to do so.  The trip includes three nights accommodations, all admissions and guides, transportation to and from Freize and two dinners.  Trip does not include airfare, meals unless noted and alcoholic beverages. $1250 per person based on double occupancy; $480 single supplement.

Participants also have the option of adding the night of May 3rd, 2018 at our group rate for a cost of $165.00, double occupancy.  It's a big night in New York for one of Greensboro's own.  Artist Lauren Worth has a solo exhibition opening that night at the Walter Wickiser Gallery--making for a very jolly kick-off our busy weekend in the city!
