THURSDAY OCTOBER 7, 2021
Tour Begins at 1:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Fairmount Hotel
Architectural Walking Tour
Leisurely guided tour of central Pittsburgh which is justly considered a living textbook of the architecture of the Industrial Age, both grand and gritty, and the best possible introduction to the enduring spirit of this proud city.
We enjoy a guided tour of this outstanding museum, an affiliate of the Smithsonian, focused on the city and its fascinating history.
Next our chartered bus takes us a hop, skip and jump over to the ‘the Mon’, Pittsburgh’s answer to how to get up a hill! This marvelous funicular railway has allowed residents of ‘Coal Hill’ to get to and from home for 150 years. The ride is great fun, panoramic views at the top are spectacular and the experience itself is quintessential Pittsburgh.
Coughlin’s Law Kitchen & Ale House
We stay on Coal Hill for dinner at this popular-with-the locals gastro pub before our chartered bus picks us up for the ride back to the elegant comfort of the Fairmount.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2021
Andy Warhol may be associated with New York and the swinging ’60s but he is a true native Polish son of Pittsburgh. The city honors his legacy with an excellent museum that combines changing exhibitions with permanent installations(—and a pretty wicked gift shop).
The Phipps is one of our country’s premier public gardens and to do it justice we give plenty of time to today’s visit. We begin with a guided tour then break to allow time for self-guided exploration and lunch at the Phipps Café (one of Food & Wine’s Best Museum Restaurants in America).
Andrew Carnegie created this museum in 1895 with the mandate to identify and collect the "Old Masters of tomorrow", a remarkably farsighted vision; one that the museum has remained remarkably true to as we will see on our guided tour of the highlights of its collections.
August Wilson, Son of Pittsburgh
Optional pre-dinner lecture exploring the themes of August Wilson’s 10 plays known as ‘The Pittsburgh Cycle’.

SATURDAY OCTOBER 9, 2021
THE NEIGHBORHOODS OF PITTSBURGH
We are out and about early this morning as we enjoy a leisurely bus tour of the different neighborhoods of this very neighborhood-centric city in which each group established a little bit of back home.
INDUSTRIAL TOUR OF THE CARRIE BLAST FURNACES
We continue on to Rankin on the outskirts of the city to take this highly unusual--and highly rewarding--tour of a former ironworks. You may want to wear your work boots because this is the real deal, telling the story of Pittsburgh industrial glory through tours often led by the very men who worked the foundry.
Our final visit will be this renowned cultural institutional that includes the Frick mansion, art museum and automobile collection. We will begin with a guided tour of the outstanding collection of Old Masters works to be followed by open time for exploring the other parts of this hallowed Pittsburgh treasure.
COCKTAIL RECEPTION FAIRMONT
We gather to toast each other and this great, big-hearted town before heading out on our own to explore Pittsburgh amazing restaurant scene
